Our History

Chapter One
Early Foundations
1957 – 1992

The club was established in 1957 in Tiervlei — now known as Ravensmead — as Tigers Cricket Club, under the leadership of founding chairman Chris Joachims.

Despite limited resources and facilities, the club quickly built a reputation for resilience and competitiveness. Through strong community support and a focus on developing young players, Tigers rose through the ranks and became a respected force in regional cricket.

This period laid the foundation for the club's identity — one rooted in perseverance, unity, and growth. The early years were characterised by a community pulling together, with families and volunteers building something lasting from very little.

"The identity forged in those early years — perseverance, unity, and growth — remains the heartbeat of Tygerberg Cricket Club to this day."
Chapter Two
Unity & A New Era
1992 – 2000s

In 1992, following the unification of cricket in South Africa, Tigers merged with Parow Cricket Club to form Tigers-Parow Cricket Club — one of the first clubs in the country to unite across racial lines.

While this marked a profound moment in the club's journey, detailed historical records of Parow Cricket Club prior to the merger are unfortunately not available. What is certain is the significance of the moment: two communities, previously separated, choosing to build something together.

The club competed at Premier League level and strengthened its presence within Western Province cricket. After the loss of the Parow grounds in 2003, the club returned fully to Florida Park, where a new clubhouse was established in 2004.

As the club entered this new chapter, it redefined its identity and became known as Tygerberg Cricket Club — a name reflecting both its heritage and its broader community representation.

Chapter Three
Development & Legacy
2000s – Present

Tygerberg Cricket Club has always placed strong emphasis on player development. Despite financial challenges that have tested the club at various points, TCC has consistently produced outstanding talent at both senior and junior levels.

The club's greatest source of pride is the players it has nurtured and sent into the wider cricketing world — from provincial level right through to the international stage.

A historic milestone came in 2012 — a year that cemented TCC's legacy in South African cricket. Vernon Philander was named SA Cricketer of the Year and SA Sportsman of the Year, while Shandré Fritz was named SA Women's Cricketer of the Year. This marked the first time both major national cricket awards were won by players from the same club.

In recent years, the club's junior programme has continued to thrive. Waco Bassick earned selection for the South Africa Under-19 team and represented Western Province Under-18. Many other juniors have achieved provincial colours, reinforcing TCC's commitment to developing future stars.
